Interval Sprinkling for Cooling Dairy Cows

The Lechler CowCool nozzle uses three cooling principles: direct cooling, evaporative cooling, and heat removal. In interval spraying for evaporative cooling, cows are targeted with larger water droplets so that the water penetrates down to the skin. The key is not to moisten the barn air, but to actually wet the animal. A targeted “soaking” with sufficient water enhances cooling further by directly removing heat from the body. The system operates in intervals: short spraying phases alternate with ventilation phases, allowing enough water to evaporate without creating unnecessary moisture in the barn.

Droplet size is crucial for effective cooling: only sufficiently large droplets penetrate the coat and reach the skin. The CC nozzle produces an optimal droplet spectrum for highly effective direct cooling – resource-efficient, field-tested, and designed for maximum performance.
